Remember when you were a kid and you saw this really cool toy or a delicious looking ice cream cone and you begged your parents to buy it for you, but no matter what, they said “No”?
But then later on, after sulking, or being a good little brat, or by getting them to agree to your terms if you agree to theirs (“I’ll buy it for you if you’re good for the rest of the day.”) they finally get it for you.
You know that feeling, right? Well, that’s how I felt with learning Korean.
When I started learning Korean I got scolded (“Learn Arabic, not Korean!”), I got criticized (“Out of ALL the languages, WHY Korean?”), and honestly? I felt like a disappointment.
I had picked up this new, amazing love for a language and culture that was so different yet so similar to the one I grew up with and loved, and yet, the people I grew up with and loved made me feel like crap about it.
That didn’t stop me, though.
Even though it felt like everyone on planet Earth and their alien best friend were against me, something in me kept pushing through.
I found way after way, resource after resource, and I kept going no matter what.
People say you need to spend a million dollars to learn Korean because you have to go to Korea, study the language in school, get a degree in Korean language, etc etc etc…But I wanted to challenge that.
I didn’t have money.
My parents were against me learning Korean.
I was all alone in my quest, and still, that’s how I went about learning Korean.
I used every free resource I could find to keep boosting my Korean skills, day after day, week after week, until finally one day, I asked my dad to enroll me into a Korean class…
And he said “Yes”.
Now, I teach Korean out of love and passion and true understanding of where you might be coming from.
And that, my dear friend, is the long (yet still somehow short) and drawn out reason as to why I compiled this ever-growing list of free Korean learning resources.
All you have to do now is read the list, pick your faves, and then bookmark the page for updates because every time I find a new, helpful resource, it’s gonna go right here.
